Bursa and its inhabitants in 1487 This edition of the census of the inhabitants of Bursa according to a tax register from the year 1487 includes also a translation and footnotes. The introduction does not contain only technical details about the text, but points out its importance. The authors give useful information about the social structure of the population, from the outcasts of fortune to the religious and administrative elite, about handicraft and other economic activities, the manufacture of cloth being among the most important ones. |
