Document Details : Title: Die timuridische Historiographie II Subtitle: Šaraf al-Dīn 'Alī Yazdī Author(s): ANDO, Shiro Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 24 Issue: 2 Date: 1995 Pages: 219-246 DOI: 10.2143/SI.24.2.2003973 Abstract : The present article focuses upon the composition of Šaraf al-dīn 'Alī Yazdī's history of the Timurid dynasty and the spiritual background of his writing. By referring to two parts of his historical work, dībāča and maqāla II, both of which have been little used by scholars, it is proposed that the idea of its structure should be a little modified. Both parts prove that his work was properly entitled Fatḥ-nāma-yi Ṣāḥib-Qirānī by Yazdī, not Ẓafar-nāma as accepted so far, and that Yazdī wrote in the maqāla II the continuation of the Timurid history after Timur's death. His relation to religious and scholarly figures as well as his description of the events makes us imagine his 'science of history' which was rooted in the intellectual atmosphere with Ši'ite tinge in 14th and 15th century Iran. |
