Document Details : Title: New Evidence for the History of the Turquoise Glass Bowl in the Treasury of San Marco Author(s): SHALEM, Avinoam Journal: Persica Volume: 15 Date: 1993-1995 Pages: 91-94 DOI: 10.2143/PERS.15.0.2003528 Abstract : Though the written history of the opaque turquoise glass bowl from San Marco can not be traced further back than the end of the 16th century, when in 1571 it was first mentioned as “Un scudellotto di color turchino, non si sa di che materia sia, ha il friso attorno ornato di granate, delle qual granate di esse mancano”, it is quite probable that it has a longer history, spanning another 600 years or so, from the moment that it was made in one of the glass manufacturing centres of the Near East until it was cited in the above-mentioned inventory. |
