Abstract :
This article deals with the question whether the Heideggerian concept of Sorgeis an appropriate concept to be used in the so called ‘ethics of care’ discussion. At the end of our analysis, this question has to be answered negatively. In the Heideggerian sense, Sorgestands for the most fundamental (ontological) way of being of the Dasein. Consequently, Sorgeshould not be characterised as an (ontic) feature or attribute of the human Dasein. The philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas, which is based upon a relational concept of the human being, offers more interesting perspectives for a philosophical-ethical conceptualization of care. In conclusion, the article elaborates the relation between caring engagements and the meaning of life.
