Abstract :
Palmyra began its dramatic development as a result of the pax romana in Syria from the mid-1st cent B.C. Appian (the Roman historian from Alexandria at the end of the 1st century A.D.)1refers to its intermediate role between the Romans and Parthians and this is put in almost romantic terms by Pliny.
