Il paraît depuis 1948, sous la forme de cahiers sans périodicité régulière jusqu'en 2014 et, depuis, sous la forme d'une revue annuelle. De même que l'Institut d'études sémitiques, Semitica s'étend à toutes les branches des études sémitiques: linguistique, philologie, histoire, archéologie, épigraphie, ainsi qu'à tous les domaines du monde sémitique, ancien et moderne, et aux domaines connexes. Semitica was founded in 1948, and irregularly published in thematic volumes by the Institute of Semitic Studies of the Collège de France. From 2015 onwards, it is published as an annual journal. Semitica covers all aspects of Semitic studies, in accordance with research conducted at the Collège de France: linguistics, philology, history, archaeology, epigraphy, and all aspects of the Semitic world, both ancient and modern, and related fields.
