Document Details : Title: Is a «Via Media» Possible? Subtitle: John Henry Newman in «Conversation» with John Milbank and «Radical Orthodoxy» Author(s): ALLEN, Wendy Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 27 Issue: 4 Date: 2002 Pages: 376-388 DOI: 10.2143/LS.27.4.945 Abstract : John Milbank, until recently a Reader at Cambridge University, England, and now teaching in the United States, has in the past ten years or so, together with others involved in the 'Radical Orthodoxy' movement, stirred both admiration and exasperation in the theological world. Whole editions of the journals Modern Theology and New Blackfriars have been given over to reviewing his work, and Milbank is himself a frequent contributor to their pages. Critical comment is generally appreciative of Milbank’s work, in which 'philosophy and sociology have become unexpectedly vulnerable to theological arguments' and commend his 'brilliant simplicity.' However, there is some concern that there is both a lack of historical and evolutionary appreciation, and depth to the ecclesiology. |
