Document Details : Title: Worship and Witness Subtitle: Some New Variations on an Old Theme Author(s): VAN BEECK, Frans Jozef Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 27 Issue: 2 Date: summer 2002 Pages: 119-131 DOI: 10.2143/LS.27.2.931 Abstract : God-given confidence in speech (παρρησία) characterizes the Christian community’s worship as well as its witness. In the person of the risen Christ, and in the act of proclaiming the account of his life, death and resurrection, the community has confident access to the living God; in recognizing God’s effective presence in this way, it worships God the way God is worthy of being worshiped. This frees the community for witness that is equally confident. The kerygmatic proclamation of the Christian narrative is also characterized by God-given parrhesia. Confidence marks the Christian commitment, both to kerygmatic mission3 and to community life. |
