This summons should not be taken lightly: it comes from Christ. It must not remain a mere exhortation: it demands action. It binds the church as an institution; it binds every person in it 'from the bishop to the last of the faithful' (LG 12). In a special way, it binds the hierarchy, also those who have a particular vocation to seek the understanding of the word of God – as theologians do – or to search for its correct application in the practical order - as canon lawyers are called to do. |
