That the Church aims to be, among other things, a community of believers, and that this notion has in principle a positive connotation, is something that few would want to deny. There prevails, then, a positive atmosphere in the Church – theologically it could hardly be otherwise. Conflict, and the lawyers that are invariably associated with conflict, would seem to be out of place here. There has always been an acute sense of this tension, whereby the advocate’s role in canon law is – structurally, as it were – the subject of continual discussion. |
