Document Details : Title: Evax en Sibilie Subtitle: Een verhaal over liefde en ridderschap in de 'Roman van Limborch' Author(s): ZEMEL, R. Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 40 Issue: 1-2 Date: 1998 Pages: 1-24 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.40.1.632432 Abstract : The story of Evax and Sibilie, which is part of the Roman van Limborch, is about the love of a poor knight for a married queen. Thematically it raises the issue of the relation beween „amour” and „chevalerie”. This text is quite special because of its attitude towards the Tristan. At one stage Evax and Sibilie’s way of living corresponds to that of Tristan and Iseut. However, this is followed by a correction which resembles the thematic ideal of Erec et Enide by Chrétien de Troyes, the first romance to criticize the Tristan. The creator of „Evax and Sibilie” should therefore be added to the line of authors who had joined the debate on the Tristan. |
