Striking about this use is its violation of selection rules. By way of an interpretation of the poem „Terugkaatsingen” („Reverberations”, „Reboundings”) Dirk De Schutter tries to show that „self” does not have the function of reflexive pronoun in Faverey’s poems, but rather that it disrupts the reciprocity between „I” and „me”. The speaking „I” cannot count on this „self”, because this „self” behaves like an unreliable nomad popping up everywhere like an unwanted guest or ghost. Maybe this „self” is nothing more than the mechanical product of a linguistic generative process deluding the speaker and the reader into the belief that there is something like an inexhaustible inwardness. |
