Document Details : Title: De woordmaan die voor het wonder eb zorgt Subtitle: Een lectuur van het gedicht 'zoutzee' uit ademzuil van Stefan Hertmans Author(s): DECELLE, Anne Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 46 Issue: 2 Date: 2004 Pages: 133-160 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.46.2.630008 Abstract : This essay offers an analysis of the poem ‘zoutzee’ from Stefan Hertmans’s poetry debut Ademzuil (1984). It starts with a detailed and scrupulous reading of the poem. This close reading reveals the intertwining of two principal semantic fields: an isotopy of water and land and an erotic isotopy. The analysis then branches out in two directions. First, the connections with Hertmans’s prose debut Ruimte (1981) are being traced. The poem and the novel share the same setting, the Dutch polder area, which functions as a metaphor for the issue of memory. Second, the intertextual relation to Paul Celan’s collection of poems Atemkristall is being examined. The focus is on the essentially circular and violent nature of memory. |
