The volume’s title provides us with a succinct summary of its content. Popp explains the literary art and theology of two important chapters of the gospel of John (Jn 3 and 6) from the perspective of the work of the Spirit. Hence the title “The Grammar of the Spirit”. In further elaborating this perspective, Popp is evidently advancing an important research topic associated with his promoter U. Schnelle whose work has insisted time and again that the fourth evangelist should be understood in the first instance as “a theologian of the Spirit” and that this has consequences with respect to the composition and style of his work. |
