Document Details : Title: The Canonical Significance of the Citations of James in Pelagius Author(s): YATES, J. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 78 Issue: 4 Date: Dec. 2002 Pages: 482-489 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.78.4.602 Abstract : When was the Epistle of James admitted to the canon of the Latin-speaking church? By any standards, this is a difficult question. The majority view would have us believe that it was strong personalities, especially those of Augustine and Jerome, who made the difference. In the pages that follow, I will demonstrate that, at best, this is a questionable and assumption-filled position. I will also argue that the writings of Pelagius have an important contribution to make with respect to the formulation of a satisfactory answer. |
