Journal: Orientalia Lovaniensia Periodica Volume: 26 Date: 1995 Pages: 163-170 DOI: 10.2143/OLP.26.0.583528 Abstract : One of the earliest extant Islamic chronicles is that of Khalīfa b. Khayyāṭ, who lived during the Abbasid period of history and who died in the year 240 A.H./854 A.D. The first annals of Islamic history which we still possess, consist of this source together with two other chronicles and they predate the most famous of all Muslim historians, al-Ṭabarī (d. 310/923), by approximately half a century. |
