Rather my focus will be on the notions concerning the origins, both of beer and wine, in ancient Greece. As we will see it was mainly through stories concerning Dionysus, the god of intoxication, that Greeks expressed their notions about the origins of intoxicants, and these stories tell us much more about ancient perceptions of drinking than of the realities concerning the origins of beverages. |
