Document Details : Title: Bronze in Luristan Subtitle: Preliminary Analytical evidence from copper/bronze artifacts excvated by the Belgian Mission in Iran Author(s): FLEMING, S.J. , PIGOTT, V.C. , SWANN, C.P. , NASH, S.K. Journal: Iranica Antiqua Volume: 40 Date: 2005 Pages: 35-64 DOI: 10.2143/IA.40.0.583199 Abstract : Of the many classes of ancient artifacts that are specific to the Iranian Plateau, the Luristan bronzes are among the best known. The world's museums are filled with an appreciable number of these ornate bronzes, the product of clandestine looting during the 1930s. A number of scholars have made admirable attempts at salvaging iconographic and technological information from these regrettably acontextual artifacts. Despite these efforts, however, we know little of how, where, and by whom they were created. |
