Document Details : Title: Breathing with Both Her Lungs Subtitle: Yves Congar and Dialogue with the East Author(s): CLANCY, Finbarr Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 29 Issue: 3-4 Date: fall-winter 2004 Pages: 320-349 DOI: 10.2143/LS.29.3.583146 Abstract : This article reflects on Congar’s contribution to dialogue with the East, an important element of his ecumenical heritage. It explores four main areas: first, Congar’s personal pilgrimage into Orthodoxy; second, his valuable diagnosis of differences of approach between East and West; third, the background to the mutual estrangement between both sides; fourth, how both sides could be enabled to grow closer by “breathing with both lungs.” This paper is part of a wider movement for renewed dialogue with the East based on “a better knowledge of history and openness to the truth of others.” |
