It sadly concludes that, among the younger generation, Congar’s immense contribution is not properly understood or appreciated. The article affords an inside view of the intriguing web that encircled Congar during his bitter exile in England in the period before the Second Vatican Council. It also presents an expert analysis of the annual Aquinas Lecture delivered by Congar in Blackfriars, Oxford, in 1974 entitled “St Thomas Aquinas and the Spirit of Ecumenism.” Wishing to contribute to a renewal in Congar studies, the article recommends that theologians and students of theology buy and read Congar’s books. |
