Document Details : Title: Yves Cardinal Congar, un maître en théologie Author(s): FLYNN, Gabriel Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 29 Issue: 3-4 Date: fall-winter 2004 Pages: 239-257 DOI: 10.2143/LS.29.3.583142 Abstract : The subject of this article is 'Yves Cardinal Congar, un maître en théologie'. In the context of a positive assessment of Congar’s career and legacy, it shows how apposite is the application to him of the appellation maître en théologie. The article explores Congar’s immense contribution in the respective domains of theology, Church and world. It assesses the significance of his historical works; his role as Church reformer; and his enormous part at Vatican II, as evidence of his extensive, indubitable mastery. But it is as theologian of the Church and servant of evangelical truth, in the finest tradition of the Order of St Dominic, that Congar is best remembered and most revered in the academy. The article also considers Congar’s exceptional contribution as theologian of the Church for a world of unbelief, thereby illuminating the a priori pastoral concern of his entire theological oeuvre. |
