Document Details : Title: Church and State in Sweden in 1999 Author(s): FRIEDNER, Lars Journal: European Journal for Church and State Research - Revue européenne des relations Églises-État Volume: 7 Date: 2000 Pages: 225-231 DOI: 10.2143/EJCS.7.0.565586 Abstract : As was mentioned already in the last edition of the European Journal for Church and State Research, the development towards a new relationship between State and Church in Sweden carried on during the year 1999. The initial decisions on the issue were taken in the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) in 1998. In accordance with the Swedish constitution, the bills amending the constitution as well as the replacement of the former Church Act by the Act on Religious Communities and the Church of Sweden Act were passed twice, first in the spring of 1998 and second, after the general parliamentary election, in the autumn of the same year. |
