Document Details : Title: The Representations of Warriors, their Costumes and Ornament, in the Miniatures of the XVIIth Century Armenian Artist Mesrop Xizanc῾i Author(s): AṘAK῾ELYAN, Mik'ael Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 27 Date: 1998-2000 Pages: 379-391 DOI: 10.2143/REA.27.0.563268 Abstract : The artist and scribe Mesrop Xizanc῾i is one of the last important reprentatives of the Armenian school of miniaturistsof the first half of the XVIIth century, but his activity, covering from 1604 to 1652, has practically not been investigated. The first stage of Mesrop Xizanc῾i’s activity was linked to the miniature schools of Vaspurakan and Xizan of the XVIth-XVIIth centuries in which he received his artistic formation. After te deportation to Iran, the influence of Persian painting can be felt in the series of miniatures considered in the article. It is primarily observed in facial representations, in costumes, and the ornamental execution of the incipits of Gospel manuscripts. |
