Document Details : Title: The Identity of the Princes in Ezekiel 19 Subtitle: Some Reflections Author(s): BEGG, C. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 65 Issue: 4 Date: December 1989 Pages: 358-369 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.65.4.556425 Abstract : Within the Book of Ezekiel chap. 19 constitutes a well-defined unit, identified by its framework verses (1,14b) as a qināh. 19,1 (MT) further specifies the object of this 'lament': nešîē yisra'ēl. The question is then: who are these 'princes of Israel' whose faith Ezekiel is directed to 'lament' in what follows? Unfortunately, an array of interconnected obstacles militates against anuy ready answering of this question. First, a glance at the BHS apparatus alerts one to the numerous text-critical problems posed by Ezekiel 19. |
