Document Details : Title: George Tyrrell Subtitle: Last Illness, Death and Burial Author(s): BOUDENS, R. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 61 Issue: 4 Date: December 1985 Pages: 340-354 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.61.4.556285 Abstract : Geirge Tyrell, a convert from anglicanism and a Jesuit until 1905, was, together with Friedrich von Hügel, the main representative of Modernism in England. WHile von Hügel was always sufficiently dextrous and cautious in his maneuvers such that he did not compromise himself and also never underwent any form of condemnation, Tyrrell's life followed a tragic path in this regard. Much has been written about both men. In many books and numerous articles, partial aspects of their teaching or of their lives have been studied, but definitve biographies are lacking. |
