Document Details : Title: Textlinguistics and the Integrity of Philippians Subtitle: A Critique of Wolfgang's Schenk's Arguments for a Compilation Hypothesis Author(s): KOPERSKI, V. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 68 Issue: 4 Date: December 1992 Pages: 331-367 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.68.4.556046 Abstract : In 1985, D.E. Garland intoduced his article on the integrity of Paul's letter to the Philippians with a statement made by A. Plummer in 1919: 'There is no reasonable doubt that all four chapters were written as part of one and the same letter, and in the order in which we have them'. Garland noted that, on the contrary, in 1985, 'A crescendo of voices now maintains that there is no reasonable doubt that all four chapters were not written as part of one and the same letter, nor in the order in which we have them'. However recently, partly due to the influence of Garland's article, a number of scholars have decided in favor of the integrity of the letter, while other have continued, in the line of Garland, to point out elements of unified structure in the canonical letter to the Philippians, thus offering further evidence for its unity of composition. |
