Such associated practices as altars facing the people, liturgy in the vernacular, and various lay ministries have fairly revolutionized the church's self-understanding, replacing a top down ecclesiology with one of a more collegial, inter-personal nature. At the same time, Vatican II's stress on the need for active participation by everyone at the liturgy has not been received without occasional misunderstandings and exaggerations. |
