Document Details : Title: The Ethics of Lying in Contemporary Moral Theology Subtitle: Strategies for Stimulating the Discussion Author(s): FLEMING, Julia Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 24 Issue: 1 Date: spring 1999 Pages: 57-71 DOI: 10.2143/LS.24.1.542133 Abstract : Lying deserves more attention than it typically receives from contemporary moral theology. Few ethical problems are more pervasive: falsehood marks every sphere of human interaction, and functions as a tool (or a weapon) for both the powerful and the powerless. Mendacity is the instrument of doctor and patient, researcher and subject, teacher and student, employer and employee – even parent and child. As such, it straddles the artificial boundaries between personal and social ethics. |
