First, there is the word gnosis. The Greek word gnosis means knowledge. This knowledge, however, is not obtained by reason, but by divine revelation. Once there was a Christian gnosis. That is to say, once there was a religious system in which Christ was seen not so much as the redeemer, but as the revealer: Christ as the one who brings true knowledge. |
