Document Details : Title: The Human Person in the Vision of Genesis 1-3 Subtitle: A Synthesis of Contemporary Insights Author(s): BEUKEN, Willem A.M. Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 24 Issue: 1 Date: spring 1999 Pages: 3-20 DOI: 10.2143/LS.24.1.542130 Abstract : The first chapters of the Scriptures continue to enjoy a staggering degree of interest and attention. Where they once played a significant role in endeavors to establish the relationship between faith and science, the history of the Ancient Near Eastern religions and the emergence of the biblical traditions and their written forms, these chapters have more recently also come to constitute the focus of attention of the literary sciences, narrative theology (creation narratives), women's studies and the environmental movement. As a consequence, a veritable flood of new publications has burst onto the market, drawing our attention to many hitherto unknown aspects of these chapters. Indeed, the availability of new material is so extensive that even a limited survey thereof would be well-nigh impossible to achieve in the space allotted to us. |
