Such recognition would extend beyond the mere acknowledgement of the value, including the independent salvific value, of those traditions for their adherents. It would also include the acknowledgement of their value for Christians. Non-Christian traditions may contain religious truths which are not disclosed within Christianity. In other words, what is at stake is not simply the willingness to allow these other traditions and other believers to be themselves. What is at stake is our willingness to allow ourselves to be challenged and even changed by the encounter with them. |
