Document Details : Title: Residences for the Rich? Subtitle: Some Observations on the Alleged Residential and Elitist Character of Regio VI of Pompeii Author(s): SCHOONHOVEN, Astrid V. Journal: BABESCH Volume: 74 Issue: Date: 1999 Pages: 219-246 DOI: 10.2143/BAB.74.0.541755 Abstract : Together with the regiones around the forum of Pompeii, the area to the north of it, Regio VI, was disinterred in rather an early phase of Pompeii's excavation history. Most of the work was done in the years 1820-1850, a period in which the excavators started to use the streetpattern of the region as guideline to their work. They were rewarded by the many grand houses that turned out to be located in this area. |
