Document Details : Title: 'The Jews' in the Gospel of John Subtitle: Fifteen Years of Research (1983-1998) Author(s): VON WAHLDE, Urban C. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 76 Issue: 1 Date: April 2000 Pages: 30-55 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.76.1.531 Abstract : The topic of “the Jews”(οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι) in the gospel of John is a topic with considerable consequences not only for the general understanding of the gospel but for understanding the relations between Christians and Jews in the first century and for the topic of modern Christian anti-Judaism. In the last fifteen years, the scholarship on the topic has increased considerably with over fifty articles and four monographs dedicated to the topic. In this survey, I have attempted to review the more detailed discussions of the topic, calling attention to the new approaches taken in the literature as well as appending some evaluative comments. |
