Document Details : Title: New Thamudic Inscriptions from the Negev Author(s): TSAFRIR, Nurit Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 109 Issue: 1-2 Date: 1996 Pages: 137-167 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.109.1.525823 Abstract : Thamudic is a North Arabian dialect or, rather, group of dialects. It is known to us through some thousands of inscriptions and graffiti. Although far fewer than in Arabia, Thamudic inscriptions are also found in the Negev, indicating that Thamudic-speaking people lived in, or at least passed through this area. The material presented in the article enlarges our Thamudic corpus from the Negev by twenty inscriptions. It also includes seven inscriptions that have previously been published, but for which new reproductions are provided. All the inscriptions were collected in the Central Negev in 1981. |
