Document Details : Title: The Arabic Life of Anbā Samaw'īl of Qalamūn Author(s): ALCOCK, Anthony Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 109 Issue: 3-4 Date: 1996 Pages: 321-345 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.109.3.525812 Abstract : The Arabic Life of Anbā Samaw'īl of Qalamūn is published for the first time in the article, from a manuscript in the Franciscan Centre of Christian Oriental Studies. The Life survives in a complete Coptic and Ethiopic version. The author suggests that the present Arabic version, though undoubtably a very late copy, is ultimately based on the original Coptic version, although the Arabic text is in many instances much closer to the Ethiopic. The translation presented in the article is made from the Arabic version. |
