Document Details : Title: The 'Archaic ' Poetry of the Pentateuch in the MT, Samaritan Pentateuch and 4 QEX Author(s): YOUNG, Ian Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies Volume: 35 Date: 1998 Pages: 74-83 DOI: 10.2143/ANES.35.0.525770 Abstract : The purpose of this article is to point out how a consideration of the history of the Biblical text complicates the discussion of Archaic Biblical Hebrew poetry. Previous studies quite naturally have been besed on the received texts of the Pentateuch poems. A basic methodological question is, nevertheless, the issue of how reliably the current distribution of archaisms in our texts reflects the most ancient version of our poems. New textual evidence is now available and should be integrated in the research. This article analyses the Hebrew texts of five extensive Pentateuch poems. |
