Document Details : Title: The Archaeological Context Author(s): BUNNENS, Guy Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies Volume: 34 Date: 1996-1997 Pages: 61-65 DOI: 10.2143/ANES.34.0.525760 Abstract : The bulk of epigraphic material recovered from Tell Ahmar comes from the earliest phase of building C1 in Area C at the western end of the settlement. The building went through two, possibly three, occupation phases. The earliest phase must have come to an end in the second half of the 7th century BC. The approximate date of the destruction is provided by the Assyrian tablets published in this article. These tablets were found in the destruction debris of the earliest phase and, as some of them mention post-canonical eponyms, i.e. eponyms who held office after 649 BC, the destruction must have occured after this date. |
