Document Details : Title: The Jeroboam-Ahijah Encounter to Josephus Author(s): BEGG, Christopher T. Journal: Ancient Near Eastern Studies Volume: 34 Date: 1996-1997 Pages: 1-17 DOI: 10.2143/ANES.34.0.525756 Abstract : The purpose of this essay is to examine a post-Biblical version of 1 Kgs II:26-40, i.e. that found Josephus' Antiquitates Judaicae (Ant.) 8.205-210. The author's investigation proceeds by way of a detailed comparison between the Josephan passage and its Scriptural source as represented by the following major witnesses: MT (BHS), Codex Vaticanus (B) and the Lucianic (L) or Antiochene MSS of the LXX and Targum Jonathan of the Former Prophets (TJ). IN carrying out this comparison, the author aims to see what can be learned regarding the sources used and the changes made by Josephus. |
