Document Details : Title: A note on S. Sorokin's re-analysis of the 'sun chariot' from Trundholm Author(s): THRANE, Henrik Journal: Iranica Antiqua Volume: 31 Date: 1996 Pages: 47-50 DOI: 10.2143/IA.31.0.519274 Abstract : In Iranica Antiqua XXV 1990, Sergey Sorokin published a paper on horse drawn vehicles which i.a. contained a severe criticism of the reconstruction and scientific treatment of the famous sun waggon from the Trundholm bog in eastern Denmark. This remains one of the prime pieces in European — even in World archaeology and an invaluable source to religious and many other aspects of Bronze Age culture. Therefore it is relevant to ensure its proper evaluation. The horse, its wheeled vehicle and spiral decorated disc with gold covered side constitute a unique ensemble with the characteristic hallmark of the Nordic Early Bronze Age culture (Montelius period II). |
