Their megration to the metropolises led to increasing Kurdish nationalism and a strenghtening of Alevi confessionalism. Between 1978 and 1980 ideological polarization provoked violent clashes in squatter areas (gecekondus), in which many people died. This article analyzes the political mobilization during these years, the role of identity in it and the meaning for the political participation of the squatters today. As written sources are rare, this study has been made on basis of leaflets, political journals and brochures of the involved organizations. |
