Through a contextualization of its style and iconography the author suggests a probable date for the manufacture of the Pasargadae seal. In so doing archival material is introduced, that raises new questions even while enriching the cultural backdrop against which we will henceforth be able to consider the seal from Pasargadae. The author also makes some tentative suggestions about possible avenues for further inquiry into the meaning of its imagery. Finally, the problem of the artifactual history of this intriguing seal is addressed. |
