Document Details : Title: Neo-Assyrian Parallels in Late Bactrian Glyptics Author(s): SARIANIDI, V. Journal: Iranica Antiqua Volume: 35 Date: 2000 Pages: 21-31 DOI: 10.2143/IA.35.0.519094 Abstract : Tens of thousands of tombs of the Bronze and Early Iron Age that were ruthlessly plundered in South Bactria (Afghanistan) have yielded a large amount of splendid funeral offerings that are now in several museums and private collections. Among these finds a special place belongs to the Bactrian glyptics. The largest portion of Ron Garner's private collection consists of copper and bronze compartimented seals, flat double faced stone amulets with engraved images, some cylinder seals and three-sided prisms of the II mil. B.C. The gems of this collection are a comparatively small but extremely representative group of Late Bactrian seals of the first centuries of the I mil. B.C., which are published in this article. |
