Document Details : Title: The Face of 'the Other' Subtitle: Lévinas' Philosophy and Hermeneutics as Questions for Ethics, Theology and Interreligious Dialogue Author(s): FRITSCH-OPPERMANN, Sybille Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 11 Issue: 2 Date: 2001 Pages: 224-234 DOI: 10.2143/SID.11.2.519026 Abstract : There has recently been a renewed interest and belief in the constructive potential of doing philosophy and its importance not only for understanding reality and ourselves better but also for a globally responsible interreligious, intercultural and interdisciplinary orientation for the future. In order to ask questions not only about one's own existence but the survival and well-being of the whole cosmos/creation as well, it is necessary to go beyond questions such as the immortality of the soul or salvation through grace alone, to use examples from Christianity. We also need to ask how we can develop and then act in accordance with a responsibility for, an interconnectedness with the Other. |
