Document Details : Title: A Project of a Hypertext for the Ġazals of Sanā'ī Author(s): ZANOLA, Valentina Journal: Persica Volume: 17 Date: 2001 Pages: 155-172 DOI: 10.2143/PERS.17.0.506 Abstract : The divan of the poet Sanā'ī (d. 525/1131) offers an indicative evidence of the difficulties the philologist meets when he devotes himself to the study of the textual history of literary works belonging to the first centuries of Persian literature. Even if proof exists that, since the first half of the 5th/11th century, in the Persian world it was usual to collect the poems of an author in a dīvān, most poets of the pre-mongol period are known only from single poems or from isolated verses contained in anthologies, histories, dictionaries or literary manuals. The extant dīvāns of these poets have often come to us thanks to manuscripts copied during the Safavid period or later and it is difficult to establish whether these codices are based on earlier and lost copies or whether they are the result of a collection of isolated poems quoted in anthologies. |
