Focussing on Pordage's treatise entitled Sophia, probably written about 1675, the article outlines Pordage's combination of visionary and apophatic mysticism, and details how the theosophic visionary undergoes a Sophianic creative process that reiterates inwardly the process by which the cosmos itself came into being. This process is very much akin to a comparable one within Sufism as discussed by Henry Corbin in the mid-twentieth century, and involves the realization of an inward or spiritual earth that also has parallels in Pure Land and Tibetan Buddhism. |
