Document Details : Title: The Way of Perfection in the Acts of Thomas Author(s): CONNORS-NELSON, Catherine Journal: Studies in Spirituality Volume: 11 Date: 2001 Pages: 144-165 DOI: 10.2143/SIS.11.0.505279 Abstract : The Acts of Thomas, written in the third century, belongs to early Syriac Christian literature. It sought to inspire Christians in the way of perfection, to serve as a guide or navigator through the rough and wild terrain of the world. Today its value in this regard has not diminished though it cannot serve as a prescriptive manual for the modern Christian. Yet, the significance of the Acts of Thomas lies in its call to perfection and its unequivocal demand for a lived faith, indeed, it offers a way of grace, of purity, and of holiness which challenges the modern believer. |
