Document Details : Title: The Dark Night of John of the Cross Subtitle: The Transformational Process Author(s): BLOMMESTIJN, Hein Journal: Studies in Spirituality Volume: 10 Date: 2000 Pages: 227-241 DOI: 10.2143/SIS.10.0.505269 Abstract : In his poem and his book of the Dark Night, John of the Cross describes in an imaginative way the process of mystical transformation by successive steps. Altough the mystical journey seems to be articulated in a chronical and 'logical' manner, the author traces in hman language structures of the all-embracing process of transformation of human qualities in divine Love. Mystical theology is the growing contemplative consciousness of the working of divine Love in all layers of the human person, annihilating every form of selfhood. The growth of disorientation in the desert of God's Love is labeled in mystical literature as Dark Night. |
