Document Details : Title: Theology, Spirituality, and the Role of Experience in Karl Rahner Author(s): MARMION, D. Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 29 Issue: 1-2 Date: Spring-Summer 2004 Pages: 49-76 DOI: 10.2143/LS.29.1.505247 Abstract : Beginning with the spiritual roots of Rahner’s theology, the article then focuses on the notion of “spiritual experience” in his work. This leads, in turn, to a critical examination of his so-called “transcendental method” particularly in the light of the “turn to the other” characteristic of much contemporary theology. It is argued that there is a similar, at times only implicit, dynamic in Rahner’s work, a dynamic that underscores the unsystematic and apophatic character of his work. |
