This demarcation, viewed from an ecological perspective, is problematic because each life is deeply connected with its environment and many other lives. The Confucian way of self-cultivation is not to be accomplished in separation from the Tao or Heaven which is the ultimate source of human goodness and constitutes the environment for self-cultivation. The Christian and Confucian views may complement rather than contradict each other. Both of their respective insights into the sinfulness and goodness of human nature are significant for ecological ethics. |
