Document Details : Title: Christian-Confucian Dialogue On Humanity Subtitle: An Ecological Perspective Author(s): PAN-CHIU, L. Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 14 Issue: 2 Date: 2004 Pages: 202-215 DOI: 10.2143/SID.14.2.505179 Abstract : Some scholars suggest that the Confucian way of self-effort contradicts the Christian way of relying on other-power. This demarcation, viewed from an ecological perspective, is problematic because each life is deeply connected with its environment and many other lives. The Confucian way of self-cultivation is not to be accomplished in separation from the Tao or Heaven which is the ultimate source of human goodness and constitutes the environment for self-cultivation. The Christian and Confucian views may complement rather than contradict each other. Both of their respective insights into the sinfulness and goodness of human nature are significant for ecological ethics. |
