Named after a British chaplain and translator who early on (1806-1812) learned the importance of accurate knowledge about others, HMI has been headquartered in varied cities. Current co-directors are Andreas and Diane D’Souza. While early HMI endeavor stressed the need for Christian workers to understand Islam, recent efforts pursue a broader “Ministry of Reconciliation.” It promotes interreligious harmony and putting aside prejudice in order to “work together for the common good.” Focused on praxis and academics, HMI staff enable programs for: language study and research, professional skills and community development, interfaith women’s journeys, and conflict resolution teams and training. |
